Why I Do This

When I built my own custom hot tub, the information I needed simply didn’t exist online. I had to work it out myself — through research, trial, and more than a few mistakes along the way.

2. Control Room Planning

The hot tub control room is the most critical element of the whole design. We’ll work out the optimal position relative to both the tub and the pool, whether it should be above or below the waterline, and the exact pump specification based on a proper head height calculation. The pool filtration system is handled separately, and we’ll make sure both systems have the space and access they need.

3. Site Assessment

You send me photos and a video walkthrough of your proposed site. I’ll assess drainage, access, any level changes, structural considerations, and how the two features will sit together in the space. Combo builds often have site-specific challenges that are much cheaper to solve on screen than on site.

4. Interactive 3D Model

This is where the whole project comes to life. I build a full 3D model of your hot tub and pool together, and we iterate — via email or WhatsApp — until you’re completely satisfied with how everything looks and functions as a combined design. You sign off before we move on.

5. 3D Plumbing Layout

Once the structure is signed off, I add the full plumbing to the 3D model for both features. You’ll be able to see exactly where every pipe, jet, filter run, and component sits. This is particularly valuable on a combo build where space for pipework is often tighter.

6. Architectural CAD Drawing

The completed design goes to our CAD and structural engineering team, who produce a professional architectural drawing with full dimensions for both structures. This is what your building contractor will work from — clean, dimensioned, and to industry standard.

7. Comprehensive Build Documentation

A 6,000+ word build guide covering everything from sealing concrete to insulation, water chemistry to equipment installation. Refined over years of real-world builds and used to complete literally hundreds of projects. Everything your builder — or you — will need to execute the build correctly.

8. Parts Quotation

How do we communicate during the process?

Primarily via email, with WhatsApp available for sharing 3D model screenshots and quick back-and-forth on design decisions. You won’t be waiting days for responses.

Can I add a pool to an existing hot tub design later?

Technically yes, but it’s far better to design both together from the start. Retrofitting a pool to an existing hot tub design often means revisiting the control room position, drainage, and structural elements that were already resolved. The Combo Consultancy exists precisely to avoid that.

What if I change my mind about something during the design?

That’s what the 3D modelling stage is for. We iterate until you’re completely happy before anything is finalised. Changes in a 3D model cost nothing. Changes on site cost a lot.

Do I need to know anything about hot tubs or pools before we start?
